It finally happened, The Pirate Bay was sentenced to jail. Let me just say that this is crazy!
I'm Swedish so I have followed this case from the beginning and it stinks. 4 guys with very little in common get sentenced to jail because they have a page that links to torrents. They don't upload it, they don't charge people for using their service and they create a debate about something really important. The logical answer would be to have a dialogue about the future of the internet, but instead they are thrown in jail like in medieval times, without debate, without justice and without moving even a single step forward.
Has the internet grown to fast? Is it going out of control?
Of course, yes, yes, yes. It's growing incredibly fast and more and more people are becomming dependent on it. We are living more and more of our lives on the internet, we are sharing information with everyone, but not just information, we are also sharing media. Media is important, it’s something that can change things and that can reach everyone in some way on some level no matter if it’s a picture, a film or a song or whatever, it has the power to change things.
The media industry and its artists have now become so corrupted that the people who years ago fought the evil empire now claim that it is actually not enough(!) to send these 4 guys to prison for one year and forcing them to pay 30 million SEK (some 3.5 million dollars). What happened?
According to famous Swedish author and historian Dick Harrisson he had hoped to see them get an even more severe punishment (

How anyone can applaud fighting technology and consumer interest (easy access) is beyond me. This will not end here. An entire generation won’t bow down to the artists. Sooner or later the industry will have to meet the consumers half way. They can’t force us into buying their products by threats of jail.
The market doesn’t work that way!
